The Fulness of Christ (2) – “Exalted…To Be a Prince And a Saviour”

Exposition | by | Volume 29, Issue 3 | May – June 2023

The titles “Lord” and “Christ” are regularly applied to Jesus in the gospels. Elisabeth marvelled, when Mary came to visit her, “that the mother of my Lord should come to me” (Luke 1:43). The angel said to the shepherds: “Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). A leper came to Jesus “and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt thou canst make me clean” (Matt 8:2). And Jesus said of himself: “The Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day” (Matt 12:8).

Caleb (5) – “He Had Another Spirit”

Exposition | by | Volume 29, Issue 3 | May – June 2023

What did Caleb want out of his life? He wanted an inheritance within the land of Israel, which he knew was not taken by the strength of his hand, or because he deserved it, but because God had promised it and God would conquer. In the last article we explored the impact of Caleb, a spiritual leader within the tribe of Judah. In this article we want to consider the story surrounding Caleb’s personal inheritance that God would give him.

The Fulness of Christ (1) – “Whose Goings Forth Have Been From of Old”

Exposition | by | Volume 29, Issue 2 | March - April 2023

Eternal life is the glorious hope of those who know God and who know the Lord Jesus Christ. We define the gospel as “the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 8:12). More than half the clauses in the BASF refer to the Lord Jesus—his birth, life, ministry and death;

Some Encouraging Thoughts from the Epistle to Philippi (1)

Exposition | by | Volume 29, Issue 1 | January – February 2023

The Philippian epistle is one of great positiveness and while Paul appears to be dealing with an element of discord in the ecclesia as well as the challenges from without, he undoubtedly seeks to inspire and elevate his readers to a greater interaction with their God and His Son Jesus Christ. Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi – The Prophets (2)

Exposition | by | Volume 28, Issue 6 | November - December 2022

It was Zechariah’s turn. He was probably a much younger man than Haggai, chosen perhaps to appeal to a younger demographic. Remember, the people had divided along age lines when the work first stopped 15 years earlier. A week or so after Haggai had silenced the ageing grumblers, Zechariah stepped in to encourage the younger generation. He was a priest whose grandfather, Iddo, had travelled back from Babylon 15 years earlier. Zechariah was perhaps in his early 30s. He was also a prophet with a completely different approach to Haggai: Haggai was brief and blunt. Zechariah, on the other hand, would have loved PowerPoint! He presented many of the greatest word-pictures in the Bible, but he started with a very simple message, just like Haggai had. His first words were:
