Society is in an ever-degrading cycle of moral standards, violence, and, to put it very simply, evil. Take the example of homosexuality: there was a time when a person who was found guilty of such acts would be imprisoned. Today, we could say the situation has completely turned around; many countries now allow people of the same gender to be given in marriage, and do not in any way allow criticism or discrimination of people who are homosexuals.

You see, we truly are living in a society with evil woven into almost every aspect. And for our young people this world is only going to apply more pressure on us to accept their new ways of living, what they would call ‘progress’. We must by no means allow ourselves to be moulded, as giving in, even only a small amount, would eventually lead to complete acceptance. We must “abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good” (Rom 12:9).

The book of Romans in chapter 12:1-2 gives us a clear message: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Do not let the wicked ways of the world creep into your lives. Instead, love God. Love Him with all your strength; love Him with every single fibre, every sinew of your body. Loving God will lead to loving good. Stand apart from the evil.

“The Lord did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people: for ye were the fewest of all people” (Deut 7:7): we are few in number, and God has not chosen us because we join in with the world’s filth and immorality. If ever there was a time to stand apart from the evil, it is now! So continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, and never lose sight of the glorious hope that the gospel has given us.
